Hello! September, eek, here we are! Crrrraaaaazaaaaay! It marks the start of all things autumnal and before we know it crimbo (yaaay!) I wanted to share a monthly favourites posts as to be honest it’s not all that often I do these things, but I’ve found some serious little gems over the last month. I wanted to take a slightly different approach to this one and also include some of the things I kinda wish I never bought, as I think it will made a nice little read, and also be hopefully beneficial when knowing a couple of things that just aren’t worth buying.
First things first, I saw Harry Potter and the cursed child in the theatre in August and I absolutely loved it! We got tickets a year in advance during one of the first releases, and it was oh-so worth the wait. So, SO, bloody brilliant. The storyline was amazing (you can read the script for only £4 if you haven’t already!) and the effects were ridiculously good. So much thought and effort went into every detail and I absolutely loved it. My mum bought me the cosiest jumper from the theatre and we also got Scorpius Malfoy’s wand to join our collection (we are much too cool,) which is pretty darn snazzy.
Makeup-wise I’ve been loving the NYX lingerie lipsticks – particularly this one in the shade lace detail. They last super long and wear really evenly; making them great to wear for meals out or when you’re going out for drinks. I’ve also been solidly loving for months on end NYX’s eyeshadow primer – it’s just as good as the best high end ones I’ve tried but lots cheaper.
After a couple of recent Tarte hauls I’ve found absolute god sends in the form of the fat wooden brush shown (epic for bronzer and a nice chunk of eye-candy,) and a cream contour stick in the shade park avenue princess. It’s super blendable and the perfect shade for my pasty complexion, love love love.
I love bath and body works all day every day, but seeing as more recently I bought a bunch of their foaming soaps that I’ve been using loads of times a day I had to include them – I’m currently on Honolulu sun which is really summery and coconutty – I need to swap this for something more autumnal soon though! (They last forever.) I also adore the Zoella shower shake, I have a full post on this collection here if you’re interested in hearing some more, but this bad boy is an in-shower moisturiser that leaves you feeling silky AF.
TK MAXX deserves a shout-out (as it usually does!) for these naughty little fellas alone. They cost only £2.99 each and smell absolutely insane, the black ones smell like sexy men. 😉 I really love these and just wish they had more of the range in stock when I went!
UNfavourites here, yikes. 😉 So I bought the Unicorn brushes as a birthday gift to myself, and while they are absolutely gorgeous and one of the brushes is pretty damn lovely to use, the rest of them (so the other nine brushes,) are pretty useless. There’s absolutely no stiffness to the brushes so the contour brush is pretty pointless with anything other than an extremely pigmented, loose powder, and the eyeshadow brushes aren’t fluffy enough to give me as a good an eye look as my other eye brushes. They do look great, but I would have rather not bothered to be honest! – and an add-on, the handle of the one brush I really liked broke off after not too many uses so I ain’t too chuffed. 😉
I’ve had this nail varnish from C&E for a while and it’s pretty awful. It might be because the colour is so light – maybe their other products are lots better, but with this you need copious coats to look like you’re wearing anything and then it chips so easily. Not happy with one, I think it’s finally going to the bin.
I bought the makeup academy pro base prime and conceal powder a while ago and did use it for ages, I really wanted to like it and for it to work wonders as colour correcting is right up my street, but this just did absolutely nothing at all. There was no difference to my look other than a bit of cakeiness – I would steer well away from this.
Finally I wasn’t a massive fan of the Bourjois brightening powder. I wanted this to do the same job as my trusty soap and glory one which really does brighten your face, but this is pretty much pure glitter. As a pan of pure glitter there’s nothing wrong with it, but in terms of brightening/highlight purposes you look pretty laughable with this on – yikes.
And that marks the end! Have you tried any of these products? What have you been loving (hating?) in August?
